CLASSES at Compass Defense LLC

USCCA Defensive Handgun

This is a seven-hour class that runs approximately 9am – 4pm. It presents the handgun as a primary home and self-defense tool. It is conducted in the classroom and on the live-fire range. The class is suitable for ages 16 and above. The USCCA Handbook and Certificate will be issued.

The class begins with home and personal defense planning. We cover handgun safety, and the basics of effective grip, stance, and presentation. Using a SIRT laser training pistol, we practice techniques for fast effective aiming at close distances and integrate this with core safe gun handling skills. We will consider choice of defensive ammunition and discuss general rules governing use of defensive force.

On the range, we will shoot at different distances and consider faster fire as distance decreases. Single-handed shooting will also be achieved. When we return to the classroom, we will discuss our performance and steps for future skill building.

The maximum class size is ten, and class time may be extended slightly depending on number of participants and discussion.
Please bring:
note-taking materials
lunch and snacks (you WILL need to eat)

Florida/Arizona Non-Resident Carry Permit Class

New Jersey residents can apply for the non-resident Permits to Carry from a number of States. By combining those from Arizona and Florida, NJ residents can legally carry a concealed defensive firearm in (currently) 32 States. This course is designed to make it straightforward to apply for the out-of-state concealed carry permits from Florida and Arizona.

We go over everything required to successfully complete your applications, including a walk through of the applications, and fingerprinting. We then discuss the need to be aware of local laws and continue with a consideration of your personal defense plan, focusing on outside the home.

On the firing range, we shoot double and single-handed, with a focus on safe gun handling at all times. We introduce single-handed firing, with either hand. The class will conclude with a review and question/answer session, with suggestions for future skill development.

You should bring two photographs for the Florida application, and a valid NJ Driver’s License. You should also bring note-taking material, and lunch. If you have a defensive firearm, you should bring it too; a holster is suggested. Bring 100 rounds of store-bought, factory-loaded ammunition. If you do not have a defensive firearm, we can provide one and appropriate ammunition. Most importantly, you should bring a positive safety-orientated attitude.

We provide all training materials, classroom and firing range facilities, and coffee and snacks. You will take away complete application packages for these two popular CCW permits, a great experience, and the most important considerations surrounding a decision to carry a defensive firearm on your person. Where appropriate, certification of safe gun handling during live fire will be issued.

Clients are reminded that reciprocity agreements are dynamic and should be confirmed. Neither of the above permits allows the holder to carry a concealed firearm outside their home in New Jersey.

The cost is $180 which includes all course materials, classroom and range fees except ammunition, which must be purchased separately.
